Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is Kevin at all the schools?

Yes, Kevin participates in the classroom with his classroom Instructors in the morning and rides with both groups out on track in the afternoon of each class day.

2) My primary goal is to become a better street rider but I’ve never been on the racetrack, let alone raced. I’m concerned as to whether I fit?

Absolutely you’ll fit in. While we do teach in the controlled environment of the racetrack, Schwantz School is a performance riding school, not a racing school.

3) I am a new rider, can I come to your school?

We suggest at least one year riding experience prior to attending to be best prepared for the Schwantz Schools’ level of instruction.

4) I do not have a current motorcycle license, but I have been street riding for years. Can I attend your school?

Yes, as long as you already have the basic skills of riding a motorcycle. But, we strongly recommend that you get the proper motorcycle riding endorsement before riding on the street.

5) Can I sign up for one day or must I sign up for both of the 2-Day school days?

You must sign up for both days of a 2-Day school. Only half of the complete curriculum is taught each day, both days need to be taken together.

6) Is the second day a continuation of the first day where skills would be built upon?

Yes. The second day curriculum assumes that the student has been through the first day and builds upon that foundation of knowledge.

7) Do both days follow the same schedule?

More or less both days follow the same schedule. Day one begins with an introduction in the classroom at 8:00 am. The first track session typically begins about 9:30 am and continues in 20-minute track/classroom throughout the day finishing up with a track walk followed by dinner. Day two begins at 8.00 am with a brief classroom recap and continues with the 20-minute track/classroom rotations that pick up where day one ends. There is an hour lunch break on both days during which a catered lunch is served.

8) I don’t own a Honda or Suzuki bike, can I bring my other brand of bike to use at the school?

YES! For the first time since we started the Schwantz School eleven years ago, students can now bring any brand of motorcycle to ride.

9) Can I alternate between both the Honda and Suzuki motorcycles during the school?

Yes! We would hope that students ride the different models we have to offer.

10) Can I specify a bike to ride?

We don’t reserve bikes. We have plenty of bikes for students to use and not all 34 students are on the track at the same time. As the class is divided into two groups there should be nearly twice as many bikes as riders for any given session.

11) Do you sell any of your Schwantz School class bikes at the end of the year?

At the end of the school year the bikes are sold through the local dealerships. Pricing is based on mileage, condition and other factors.

12) Under Technical Requirements for Bringing My Own Bike it says “Taping headlights, taillights and turn signals”. Is removing the bulbs adequate?

Actually, simply disconnecting the headlight and taillights is fine, though we do require the turn signals to be either taped over, or preferably, removed for track safety reasons.

13) Under Technical Requirements for Bringing My Own Bike it says “New or near-new (90% tread depth or better) tires are required.” How can I determine if my tires have 90% tread depth?

Basically, we require new tires or tires with less than 200 street miles on them. While it might not be enforced with a vernier caliper, the 90% tread depth rule simply puts a number on the fact that we want at least near-new tires. We do this for the student’s safety because badly worn tires at the end of a day or two of track time can be a safety issue.

14) Are bikes included in the price of the 3-Day School at Road Atlanta and the 2-Day Indy School?

Yes

15) What size Dainese leathers would I wear?

Your Italian leather size equates to your US jacket sizing, i.e. 40-42-44-44 etc. plus 10.

16) What are considered riding boots?

Motorcycle-specific boots designed with added protection, particularly in the outer toe, ankle and calf areas. The Dainese boots we rent are an excellent example of a riding boot.

17) What is the cost for my spouse/friend/guest to join me for lunch and/or dinner?

 Lunch or Dinner is $10.00

18) What is your rain policy?

The Schwantz School is held rain or shine. However, if Kevin Schwantz or the officials of the Schwantz School feel the weather and amount of rain would cause a dangerous environment, credits will be given depending upon the amount of time already spent on the track and in the classroom.

19) What is your refund policy?

Cancellations made prior to 31 days of your scheduled school date can do so without penalty. Cancellations made within 30 days of your scheduled school date will be given a 50% credit towards a future school and the remaining 50% will be assessed as a cancellation fee.

Cancellations made within 21 days of your scheduled school date will not receive any credit towards a future school. 100% will be assessed as a cancellation fee.
